After a lot of planning and great support and contributions from the community, the Hawarden American Legion and Hawarden VFW Post 2526 dedicated the Memorial August 31, 2003, during Big Sioux River Days celebration in Hawarden.

Located in the city park on Hiway 12, the Memorial lists 1,030 local veterans on four large tablets. Future plans include additional landscaping.
