Proclaimation for Volunteer Firefighters
Message from Chief Jon Strong:

We have a total of 30 firefighters, the newest member is Jonny Strong as of January 2008. In 2007 we had a total of 35 calls from grass fires, car accidents, structure fires, car fires and mutual aid calls..

In 2007 we have 5 personnel that have just completed the Firefighter 1 course which now gives us a total of 20 certified firefighters. We also have 5 new firefighter 2 certified firefighters.

Firefighter 1 consists of 55 hrs of training and completing hands on test, and written test. Firefighter 2 consists of an additional 32 hrs of training and completing hands on test, and written test. We have 10 firefighter personnel that have completed 55 hrs of training to become ERT (Emergency Rescue Technician)

All 30 firefighters are NIMS (National Incident Management System) Compliant. Each firefighter has to keep-up 24 hours of training yearly.

The Hawarden Fire Department is rightly proud of these two firemen. Neither wanted this publicity and both are embarrassed by this picture, but as members of the Hawarden Community and the human race, you have to be very proud that we still care this much about each other.

You can see the State proclamation and the events of this remarkable rescue here.
