Safety Tips:

Home:

  1. Do not put your name on the outside of your residence or mailbox.
  2. Have good outside lighting.
  3. Control vegetation to eliminate hiding places.
  4. Use solid core doors with dead bolt locks.
  5. Install one way peep-holes in doors.
  6. Restrict the possession of house keys.
  7. Change your locks if your house keys are lost or stolen and when moving into a previously occupied residence.
  8. Lock all entrances at night, including the garage.
  9. Keep the house locked when you are away from home.
  10. Develop a friendly relationship with your neighbors.
  11. Do not leave notes on your outside door telling someone when you are away.
  12. Do not hide house keys outside the house.
  13. When away, use a timer to turn lights on and off at various times and locations.
  14. Notify the police if you are going to be away.


Business:

  1. Install dead bolt locks on office doors leading to hallways and other public areas. Consider installing a "buzzer" entry door system.
  2. Managers should issue and control keys, conduct semi-annual inventories, and have locks changed when keys are missing.
  3. Instruct all employees on the operation of the security system.
  4. Do not allow visitors in secure areas.
  5. Make sure all outside door are securely locked when closing at night.
  6. Check with a reputable security company for information on available equipment or services.


Automobiles:

  1. Keep your vehicle in good repair, you don't want it to fail when it is needed most.
  2. Keep the gas tank at least half full at all times.
  3. Park in well lit areas.
  4. Always lock your car.
  5. If possible, do not leave your car on the street at night.
  6. Remember to ride with seatbelts buckled, doors locked and windows rolled up.
  7. Be alert while driving or riding.
  8. Do not leave valuables lying on the seats or in plain view.
