We Take Our Fun Seriously !

We work hard, we play hard. Hawarden has been working diligently to provide our residents with the best opportunities in recreation. We have an outdoor pool, three softball diamonds, three baseball diamonds, six community parks and two commercial fitness centers.

The city, in cooperation with the local school district, West Sioux Schools, has hired a full time recreation coordinator to provide some structure to our summer recreation program and improve our winter recreation and physical activity. This has already started to show benefits, such as a new soccer league for the kids, improved baseball and softball leagues and many cultural and group trips for kids of all ages. Golf is a staple of summer, and Hawarden has a nine hole course lovingly cared for by the golfers that use the course. Not a group of stuffed shirts but friends and neighbors who love the game and work hard to make the course the best it can be.

If searching for a golf ball isn't your thing, you can search for pheasants or deer (in season) as some of the best hunting in the US is only walking distance away.

Fishing is available as close as the edge of town, or - in less than an hour's drive - you have the finest fishing on the Missouri.

In winter, the ice is the only thing between you and the fish.

We have a new swimming pool for summer fun.

Hawarden is a place where the kids can ride their bikes to the pool and parents are sure they will arrive safely. Hawarden Summer Recreation program includes swimming lessons so our kids are as safe in the water as they are on the streets. A water slide and a wading pool for the toddlers round out the aquatic recreation.

And if you get tired of getting wet, there are City parks with softball fields, baseball fields and basketball hoops throughout town just waiting for a game.

With places like Oak Grove State Park, the Big Sioux River and walking trails nearby - We even have places perfectly suited for doing -

- nothing at all.

Oak Grove is a state park, managed by the Sioux County conservation board for the enjoyment and use of the people of Hawarden and Sioux County. It is a wonderful resource for education, conservation and recreation.
