Hawarden Community Hospital

The foundation of health care is the Hawarden Community Hospital. Constructed in 1936 at a cost of $36,000, the hospital has undergone many renovations and additions over the years as the community needs have changed. The hospital just completed a $750,000 construction program to improve outpatient and emergency care facilities. The citizens have voted to augment the hospital's finances with a 1% local option sales tax to ensure the financial viability of the hospital. The Hospital is applying for Critical Access Hospital designation from the Federal Government. That will also increase the financial picture and Hawarden expects this cornerstone of the health care in this area to remain open and accessible to all who need it.
