Snow Parking Ordinance

With the change of the seasons upon us, the Hawarden Police Department would like to remind the citizens of Hawarden of the winter parking rules. The Hawarden Municipal Code states  “no person shall park, abandon, or leave unattended any vehicle on any public street, alley, or city-owned off street parking area through the duration of any snowfall, snowstorm, or ice storm, and the twelve hour period after the cessation of the same, except upon streets which have been fully opened.”

The reason this is in effect is so the city crews can clean all of the streets without any vehicles obstructing the streets. Failure to remove vehicles from the streets will result in a parking ticket being issued to the vehicle owner with a fine of $20.00.   There is also the possibility of the vehicle being towed at the owner’s expense.

The Hawarden Police Department recommends that all vehicle owners make plans early on where they will park their vehicles so there is not a problem at the last minute. The vehicles can be parked back on the roadway only if the street is cleared from curb to curb. If there is an emergency, and the vehicle cannot possibly be moved, the owner should contact the police department so we can make appropriate arrangements.

Hawardendevelopment.com Goes Live!

Hawardendevelopment.com, the City of Hawarden’s economic development webpage, is ready for viewing. The webpage, under construction for several months, will be used to market the community to prospective businesses, individuals and families looking to relocate to the Hawarden area, and residents looking for updates on various projects throughout the community. “The webpage took over six months to complete and we are very pleased with the result,” said Chris Myres, Economic Development Director for the City. “The site gives us a professional image, but, more importantly, provides all the timely and detailed information businesses and visitors are searching for.”

Hawardendevelopment.com features updated information regarding projects throughout the community, information regarding housing incentives and the available workforce, and technical assistance for existing businesses and budding entrepreneurs. A five minute community video will be added shortly. The news section of the home page will serve as an up-to-date source of information. “We encourage residents and businesses alike to search the webpage and check back regularly for updates,” said Myres. We anticipate the webpage will always be changing as we will continually be updating news stories and other information to keep people interested in the site.”

The webpage is the final piece of a marketing campaign produced by the City of Hawarden to help showcase the community to individuals and families looking to move to the area, businesses, and corporate site selectors. “The Hawarden area is a great place to do business and raise a family. This webpage helps us get that message out to the entire world,” said Cathie Brown, Director of the Hawarden Area Partnership for Progress. For more information regarding the City of Hawarden’s marketing efforts, please contact the Hawarden City Offices  Development Office at 1-866-603-6460 or chrism@hawardendevelopment.com.
