Natural Gas Price Statement |
Natural Gas Prices - Expect Higher Gas Bills & the Fuel Surcharge to RemainWe wanted to make you aware that the cost of natural gas remains high since late last fall. To date gas prices have not come down and are still over double what we were paying three years ago for the winter season. As a result you can expect to face higher gas bills this winter. We have discussed this issue in our March newsletter and are again advising you now so that you have time to prepare. To date, nobody has been able to satisfactorily explain to us the reasons for the increased prices for natural gas. Regardless of the reasons for the high gas prices, they still exist. While market prices are beyond our control, the part of your gas bill that covers our costs, the delivery of natural gas to your home or business, has been held as low as possible and it our intent to keep it that way. |
Veterans Memorial Dedication |
Veterans Memorial DedicatedOver six hundred people showed up Labor Day Weekend to unveil Hawarden's newest landmark. What started with an idea by a few, has become another jewel of our City as a monument of honor and a place of pride and beauty on our City's landscape, to be shared by all. Just as this memorial honors those who have served our country, you should also look upon it as honoring the human spirit of volunteerism and the quality of the people that we have in community. Here you have a group of veterans that in the past have sacrificed for all of us while in uniform. During service to their country they have often lived in horrible conditions, missed key family events, gave up their own personal liberties and put their life at risk. Today they are again making sacrifices for us by donating their time, money, ideas and efforts to improve their community. This is yet another great achievement in an overall effort to redevelop our City. On behalf of the City of Hawarden we our proud of this memorial, the reason for which it stands, and the citizens and veterans that worked so hard to build it. Way to go Veterans, Way to go Hawarden!! Stop by and see HawardenÕs newest treasure!! |

New Fire Station Information |
New Fire Station Project ProgressesIn July the City Council unanimously reconfirmed it's approval for the fire station project to move forward. The project is currently in the preliminary design phase and should go to construction plans, bids, and construction before this winter. The new 50 foot by 150ft building (7,500s.f.) will have 10 bays (4 mini) and will house both the Hawarden Fire/Rescue Department and Hawarden Ambulance Squad. The two groups will share a common training room, kitchenette, and bathrooms. The project will be constructed at 7th Street and Hwy 12 (Avenue E) on the former site of Hawarden Feed and Grain. The current fire station will be utilized by the Hawarden Street Department. This drawing is by InVision Architecture and shows the conceptual site plan view. |
