Communication Primer

This is the RSU (Remote Subscriber Unit) it connects your interior phone wiring, cable TV wiring and Broadband Connections to a coaxial cable (like a cable TV cable) that HiTec buried underground. All that data travels down that cable at the same time to a box near the street.
The Cable come out the other end at a junction box like the one on the left. There is a box like this every four to six houses. A group of these small junction boxes are joined together at a larger box, usually one every block or so. This is where the change from copper cable is converted to Fiberoptic cable.
The box on the right is a remote generator. There is one on each "node." This supplies a boost to the signal, sort of like an amplifier. These units are supplied with batteries, with an electrical supply (on the right) and a gas supply (on the left). Regardless of the circumstances, these amplifiers should continue to function. Good thing, because without them, we would not have service. Please don't hit one of 'em.

NODE:

Ah, another new term. Well the city is divided into 8 nodes or sections. Each node is independent and covers approximately 12% of the community. Unfortunately, it does not work as well in practice and some of the nodes are more heavily utilized than others.
