ORDINANCE 622

AN ORDINANCE INCREASING ELECTRIC RATES BY 7%

Whereas, The Western Area Power Administration (WAPA) supplies approximately 2/3 of the City's Electrical Power; and,

Whereas, WAPA has indicated it plans to increase rates by 17% effective January 1, 2004, resulting in an overall increase of 7% in wholesale electricity costs to the City's Electric Utility.

BE IT ORDAINED by the City Council of Hawarden, Iowa as follows:

Section 1. Amendment. Chapter 6, Section 6.6 of the Hawarden Municipal Code is hereby amended as follows:

SECTION 6.6 – Electric Utility Rates.

Section 6.6.1 - Residential Rate.

b. Residential Electric Rates –
Minimum System Support Charge: $16.65 (this includes no usage).
Plus all energy used: .04213 per KWH .04507 per KWH

Section 6.6.2 Non-Residential, Non-Demand Rate

B. Non-Residential, Non-Demand Rate–
Minimum System Support Charge: $19.35 (this includes no usage).
Plus all energy used: .05593 per KWH .05984 per KWH

Section 6.6.3 Non-Residential, Demand Rate

b. Non-Residential, Demand Electric Rates –
Minimum System Support Charge: $0 (this includes no usage).
Demand Charge: $3.3372 $3.5708
Plus all energy used: .0396 per KWH .0423 per KWH

Section 6.6.4 Non-Residential, Demand, Interruptible Rate.

Section 6.6.5 Non-Residential, City Interdepartmental Rate.

b. Non-Residential, City Interdepartmental Electric Rates –
Minimum System Support Charge: $0 (this includes no usage).
Plus for all energy used: .02163 per KWH .02314 per KWH

Section 6.6.6 Other Services.
a. Security Lights.
Security lights shall be provided at a flat rate of:
$5.00 for metered security lights and
$7.00 $8.00 per month for unmetered lights.

Section 2. Repealer. All ordinances or parts of ordinances in conflict with the provisions of this ordinance are hereby repealed.

Section 3. Severability. If any section, provision, or part of this ordinance shall be adjudged to be invalid or unconstitutional, such adjudication shall not affect the validity of the ordinance as a whole or any section, provision, or part thereof, not adjudged invalid or unconstitutional.

Section 4. Effective Date. This ordinance shall be in effect after its final passage, approval, and publication as provided by law.
