ORDINANCE NO. 607

AN ORDINANCE AUTHORIZING THE CITY ADMINISTRATOR OR TELECOMMUNICATIONS DIRECTOR TO APPROVE TELEPHONE TARIFFS AND AMENDMENTS TO TELEPHONE TARIFFS

WHEREAS, The Hawarden City Council has sole authority to set rates to be charged for services provided by the City’s telecommunications utility, and;

WHEREAS, Telephone tariffs required by the Federal Communications Commission and the Iowa Utilities Board, reporting rates charged for telecommunications services demand frequent amendments and administrative filings, and;

WHEREAS, Requiring the City Council to approve tariffs and numerous amendments to tariffs which do not change rates or charges creates a burdensome task for the Council, and;

WHEREAS, Authorizing the City’s administrative staff to approve non rate related tariffs will significantly improve the timeliness and efficiency with which these tariffs and tariff amendments are approved and filed with the proper administrative agency.

BE IT ORDAINED by the City Council of Hawarden, Iowa as follows:

  1. The City Administrator and Telecommunications Director are hereby granted the authority to approve all non-rate related telephone tariffs, and all amendments to such telephone tariffs, on behalf of the City of Hawarden.
  2. All authority regarding the adoption and changing of telephone rates and charges to customers remains with the Hawarden City Council.

Passed and Adopted this 23rd day of September, 2002.
