MINUTES – SPECIAL CITY COUNCIL MEETING
HAWARDEN CITY HALL – COUNCIL CHAMBERS ROOM
Wednesday, January 4, 2006 at 7:00 P.M.

The Council Meeting was called to order at 7:00 pm.

Present: Mayor Porter; Council Members: Borchers, Anderson, Hedden, Cauwels, Jacobs 

Absent: none

Staff Present:  Tom Kane, Public Works Director; Mike DeBruin, Police Chief; Chris Myres, Telecommunications Director; Sharole Rens, Finance Director; Jim Pickner, City Attorney.

Staff Absent: none

Agenda Items

1. Presentation on Council requirements for Federal National Incident Management System by Jerry Wilson, EMS Director.  Jerry Wilson presented to Mayor, Council, and staff information on the required NIMS training and its objectives.

2.  Orientation for new Council Members – a look at relevant ordinance and policy by Ricard Porter, Mayor and Jason Metten, City Administrator/Clerk.  Mayor Porter and City Administrator Jason Metten presented information to the Council regarding the City Charter, Operating Procedures of the City, duties of the Mayor, Mayor Pro Tem, Council, and City Administrator, the flow chart of the City of Hawarden Departments and Boards, and a New Council Member Orientation. 

3. Strategic Planning Discussion – City Administrator, Jason Metten gave a power point presentation going over the 2005-2006 Goals and gave a update as the progress of each project and goal, and also went over a Master List of Goals and Objectives in Public Works, Public Safety, Community Development and Economic Development for future goals and projects.

Moved by Cauwels/Hedden to adjourn.  Motion carried unanimously.  Council Meeting adjourned at 8:40 p.m.
