Fire Department

Message from Chief Jon Strong:
We have a total of 30 firefighters, the newest member is Steven Cobb.
In 2008 we had a total of 24 calls from grass fires, car accidents, structure fires, car fires and mutual aid calls.
In 2008 we had 10 additional personnel that have completed the Firefighter 1 course which now gives us a total of 20 certified firefighters. We also have 5 firefighters 2 certified firefighters.

Firefighter 1 consists of 84 hrs. of training and completing hands on test and written test. Firefighter 2 consists of an additional 32 hrs. of training and completing hands on test, and written test. We have 10 firefighter personnel that have completed 55 hrs. of training to become ERTs (Emergency Rescue Technicians)

All 30 firefighters are NIMS (National Incident Management System) Compliant. Each firefighter has to keep up 24 hours of training yearly.

The Hawarden Fire Department is rightly proud of these two firemen. Neither wanted this publicity and both are embarrassed by this picture; but as members of the Hawarden Community and the human race, you have to be very proud that we still care this much about each other.
