Owner-Occupied Housing Rehab Application
The City of Hawarden has been awarded a federal grant in order to implement an Owner-Occupied Housing Rehabilitation Program. Over the next two years approximately ten homes will be rehabilitated within a target area located between 12th Street South to 7th Street between County Road 18 and Avenue A. Improvements are geared toward making the unit structurally safe, weatherproof and habitable and can include items such as new roofs, windows, doors, siding, foundation work and/or update plumbing, electrical and heating components.
Some of the eligibility requirements include: 1) participants must have an annual income that is below 80% of the County’s Median Income:

2) a maximum of $24,999 of grant assistance per housing unit; 3) housing units must continue to be occupied by the homeowner for five years before the loan/grant is fully forgiven; and 4) housing units must exceed Iowa’s Minimum Housing Rehabilitation Standards after rehabilitation.
